Artist Print

In a photography print edition, an artist’s print (or artist’s proof, marked “A.P.”) is a small number of prints—typically up to 10% of the total edition—set aside for the photographer’s own use.

They are printed to the same specifications as the numbered edition prints (same size, paper, and quality) but are not part of the numbered sequence. Artist’s prints serve as personal reference copies, may be used for exhibitions, donations, or the artist’s archive, and can sometimes hold extra value for collectors due to their rarity and direct connection to the artist.

Authenticity

Each print in the edition is embossed with the artist’s logo — the initials SP (see image) — as a mark of authenticity. This embossing verifies that the print is an original work created and approved by the artist.
